Senior Exercise


The Division of Recreation is very pleased to offer Rockaway Township residents a variety of exercise programs. Classes run on an 8 week schedule throughout the year. These documents are available online below or may be acquired at the Division of Recreation office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you have any questions or require additional information, please call the Division of Recreation at 973-983-2841. Please read on for brief descriptions of the Township's exercise programs.

For a schedule of class dates, please click here. All class dates are subject to change. Registration is approximately one month before classes begin. Please visit the Division of Recreation to register. 

Current classes include:

"Healthy Bones” - A low impact exercise program for women and men of any age who have been diagnosed with or are at risk for osteoporosis.

"Low Impact Aerobics" - Includes warm-up, stretching, balance awareness, cardio routine, muscle strengthening with hand weights and followed by cool down/relaxation.
 
"Yoga” - Chair Yoga including stretching, basic postures, breathing & meditations and Open Yoga which is chair exercises plus low impact aerobic exercises. 
       
“Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP)” - Low impact exercise program to maintain muscle strength, increase joint flexibility and range of motion while improving overall stamina.








  1. Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP)

    The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is a recreational group exercise and education program designed specifically for anyone with arthritis or other musculoskeletal conditions.

  2. Rockaway Township Municipal Alliance Committee

    The Alliance works to provide a coordinated effort in promoting and supporting drug and alcohol prevention and education programs, as well as related activities within the community.

  3. [HIDDEN] Tai Chi

    Tai Chi is a Chinese form of physical exercise that is characterized by a series of very slow, deliberate, graceful body movements.

  4. Yoga

    The classes will focus on gentle stretching with basic yoga postures and breathing techniques.
