Every year March 8th is designated as International Women's Day. Today we recognize women for their past, present and future contributions and achievements to our society.International Women’s Day dates back to New York City in 1908 where a group of women gathered together to demand fair pay, better working conditions, and the right to vote. Once the masses heard about their commitment to equality, it inspired comparable occurrences in other industrialized countries. Three years later in 1911, the first official International Women's Day rallies were held throughout Europe.
In present time a number of women around the globe do not have the same rights as their male counterparts. The movement has made great strides, but there is still a long road ahead. We need to stand up, giving a voice to these women who might not otherwise be heard. Today’s women inspire each other to be confident, resilient and more influential in all areas of their life. International Women's Day, was designated to observe and applaud the female innovators who have paved the way.
I would like to recognize all the dedicated women who have contributed so much to our great nation’s success. For all those women in uniform who defend our nation, those who educate our children and preserve our future, patrol our streets, extinguish our fires, operate our ambulances, care for us in the medical field, I truly thank you.
Lastly, my greatest gratitude goes to those women who work here in Rockaway Township, either for the municipality or the Board of Education, your dedication and resolve for our residents is steadfast and heartfelt. Thank you for making our community great.
