Parents, educators, community representatives and municipal officials will come together to present a town wide program entitled “Your Child and Technology: a Parent’s Guide to a Kind and Safe Cyber Community.” The program, featuring author Katie Schumacher, will be held at Christ Church, 140 Green Pond Road, Rockaway, at 6:30pm on Thursday, October 5.
Ms. Schumacher is an author, teacher and founder of the “Don’t Press Send” campaign, which gives students, parents and educators tools to incorporate a mindful, kind approach to social media and communication. Ms. Schumacher, a frequent lecturer on the subject of raising and educating children in the digital age, will provide attendees with a greater understanding of online behavior ‘rules of engagement’ and the value of a well-regulated cyber environment.
Program attendees will learn how to provide guidelines for navigating social media, how to protect children from engaging in illegal and potentially dangerous online activity, ways to teach and enforce technological responsibility through kindness, and recommendations for living with a healthy balance of technology.
The event is cosponsored by the Rockaway Township PTA, Rockaway Township Education Association, Rockaway Township Public Schools, Christ Church, and the Township of Rockaway. In addition, numerous community organizations will be present to meet with attendees and provide helpful information. Light refreshments will be served and copies of Ms. Schumacher’s book will be available for purchase. To register for this important community event, please visit: http://bit.ly/2whLjRy.
