On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, the Rockaway Township Division of Health was notified of a suspected case of parvovirus at the Eleventh Hour Rescue facility, located at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall. The Division of Health conducted an inspection of the facility and confirmed the presence of canine-specific parvovirus. In accordance with State code and in compliance with the State Public Health Veterinarian and Division of Health, Eleventh Hour Rescue cooperated fully and all dogs were voluntarily removed; the facility is undergoing thorough disinfection.
To reiterate, this strain of parvovirus is canine-specific, and while it can spread from animal to animal, it is not known to affect humans. This parvovirus incident was site-specific and a full investigation was conducted by the Division of Health upon notification.
