COVID-19 Park & Passive Gathering Guidelines
Rockaway Township
Beginning on June 17, at 6:00am, Rockaway Township permits and encourages the use of its public parks, provided that the following conditions are met, in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order 152:
1.Groups gathering outdoors must be limited to 100 persons or fewer
2.All attendees at an outdoor gathering must be six feet (6’) apart from other attendees at all times, with the exception of immediate family members, caretakers, household members or romantic partners, as well as a limited number of individuals organizing or maintaining the gathering.
3.In the event six foot (6’) social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, all individuals at an outdoor gathering should wear face cover, except where doing so would inhibit the individual’s health or where the individual is under two years of age.
4.There may be no contact between attendees, with the exception of the individuals/groups mentioned in Item 2 above.
5.If individuals are organizing or maintaining a gathering at a public space/park in Township, they should, where applicable, demarcate six feet (6’) of spacing in the area of the gathering to demonstrate appropriate social distancing (i.e., placement of cones or flags).
6.Any physical items, including equipment, may not be shared by multiple attendees, with the exception of the individuals/groups mentioned in Item 2 above.
7.Where the number of individuals gathering at a public space/park in Rockaway Township is 25 persons or fewer, those in attendance are not required to comply with Items 2 – 5 above.
8.Open-air rain tarps, tents and other outdoor structures are permitted solely for the purpose of protecting against foul weather or shade, provided any other applicable Township permits are obtained.
9.In accordance with the New Jersey Commissioner of Health’s Guidance for Outdoor Organized Sports, outdoor organized sports are prohibited until June 22, at which time Township parks will be made available for some organized youth and adult sports activities.
10.Appropriate signage, denoting select requirements of Executive Order 152, shall be placed at each park entrance and/or parking area by Rockaway Township staff.
11.The following shall remain closed at Township parks and public spaces in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Orders until further notice:
- Playgrounds
- Pavilions and gazebos
