We are experiencing an algae bloom at the pond this season, leaving the normally pristine water green in color and having a faint odor. A mild winter and summer heat conditions have accelerated algae growth. Limited rainfall has also contributed to the condition. The algae we see now is more common in late August / early September.
The Township is working with an environmental consultant for water treatment and sampling. We anticipate conditions improving within the next few days. Water samples taken regularly by the Township Division of Health since the season began, met the State standards for safe bathing.
We thank the public for their understanding and patience. For further questions, please contact the Department of Community Services at 973-983-2841 or 2848.
